  2. KitchenIQ Angle Adjust Sharpener

    KitchenIQ Angle Adjust Sharpener

    Mage_Catalog_Block_Product_List
    $39.99

A sharp knife is a beautiful thing--it makes any cutting, slicing or chopping job easier and the results better and, if you cut yourself, it’s actually less painful and damaging with a sharp knife, because the cut is cleaner. So you must sharpen your knives, if they are to do their jobs properly. But the occasional swipe across the steel that came with your set doesn’t really seem to make a difference. And so you don’t use the steel every time you use the knife - like the guys at Benihana - and the dullness problem compounds itself. No surprise: the steel is intended to be the last step of sharpening: not the only step.

So how do you sharpen your knives? Each blade is manufactured with a slightly different angle at the cutting edge, and sharpening to that exact angle is tricky: relying on your grip to keep the knife at the correct angle requires years of practice. So you tried those “guides” that hold the blade at the correct angle, but they were designed for one brand or style of knife and not the others.  What you need is a single sharpener that will adjust to the correct angle for each of the knives in your kitchen.

  3. Edge Grip 2-stage knife sharpener

KitchenIQ Edge Grip™ 2-Stage Knife Sharpener

    Mage_Catalog_Block_Product_List
    $5.99

So once you realize that you need to keep your knives sharp (and that you don’t want to be that person who has to apologize for your knives when friends help in the kitchen), then the question becomes not “whether”, but “how” and “how often” to sharpen your knives.

Kennedy is the knife guy in Colbrook Kitchen, and he does the heavy duty knife sharpening with the beautiful Sharpening Stones from Smith's Abrasives, and in between, he’ll use the Adjustable Sharpener. I’m a little lazier, but I still want my knives sharp, so a couple of times a day, I’ll just grab this little guy from on top of the knife rack, where he lives, and run my knife through a few times. It’s so easy, it doesn’t even feel like I’m working, but it does help sharpen the edge of my knife.

  4. KitchenIQ Ginger Tool

    KitchenIQ Ginger Tool

    Mage_Catalog_Block_Product_List
    $19.99

Fresh ginger is one of those great flavor enhancers that can make almost any dish really “pop”. There is nothing that can substitute for the taste of fresh ginger. And ginger is a natural anti-inflammatory and antioxidant, it calms queasy tummies and boosts immune systems… in short, it’s pretty much a miracle plant!

But ginger isn’t the easiest root to deal with: it’s irregularly shaped, all knobby and just a little awkward to handle, and stringy underneath the outer layer. So once you decide that ginger is a key ingredient in your cooking, your next decision is … how you deal with it.

There are multiple challenges in dealing with fresh ginger. How do you peel it? How do you grate it, without wearing out your arm? How do you slice it thinly and evenly? How do you do all these things, while protecting your hands and fingertips and getting great results easily? We’ve found the answer.…
