  2. Oggi Double-Walled Stainless Steel Bowls with Lids

Oggi Double-Walled Stainless Steel Bowls with Lids

Now that the weather has turned warm and eating outdoors, whether a picnic or glorious dinner under the stars, is the seasonal treat we wait for all year. But with outdoor dining come some considerations: what dishes and flatware do you use, how to keep the bugs away from your food, and how to keep your food hot or cold (as the case may be) when you’re away from controlled climate and electricity?

Well, one of the best ways to keep hot foods hot and cold foods cold is a low tech (no tech) solution: double-walled stainless steel. I was researching why double walls are so effective in retaining heat and cold and ran across this wonderfully whimsical explanation in and had to share it with you:

So imagine you have a cat. You are full of warm lovely feelings of affection for said kitty. In order to transfer your feelings of warmth and love to Mr. Kitty you pet him, and after chewing on your hand a little bit, Mr. Kitty's cold little heart warms up and he decides he loves you back. This is also how heat transfer works. Hot things rub up against cold things and warm them up until they are both the same temperature.

Now imagine you put on a big fluffy glove and go to pet Mr. Kitty. Mr. Kitty's tiny little brain will be confused and it will take much longer for him to stop trying to gnaw his way to the center of the tootsie pop that is your hand. Eventually though, he will calm down and accept your petting. This is how traditional insulation works. Things make worse contact and heat transfers more slowly.

Finally imagine that you are trying to pet Mr. Kitty by just waving your hands back and forth over the top of him. Mr. Kitty is going to put up with this for about 15 minutes, and then go sit in the corner and wish his human wasn't such an idiot. This is how your double walled container works. There is essentially no contact between the outside and the inside, and as such, very little heat transfer occurs.

  3. Oggi Handled Expandible Trivet

    Oggi Handled Expandible Trivet

Does this sound familiar? You’ve made a beautiful casserole for company, but how do you serve it? If it’s hot (and it probably should be), do you don oven mitts and try to keep a grip on it as you pass it around? Or do you designate someone as “Mom” to serve as everyone passes their plates? Neither of these is a very elegant solution.

On one of our trips to France, in a town in the Dordogne, we went to a small cookware store and found a wonderful expandable stainless steel trivet with handles that would take almost any size casserole dish to the table safely and elegantly, and also make it easy to pass the casserole around the table to serve.

When we started this business we hunted for an equivalent to offer to you, because it has become a treasured and very useful part of our kitchen. Finally, this last January we found one and have been putting it through its paces...and we can truly say that the new one has everything we were looking for ….

  4. Oggi Stainless Steel Non-Skid Serving Tray

Oggi Stainless Steel Non-Skid Serving Tray

It’s a beautiful day (hey, spring is just around the corner ...Yay!) and your guests are enjoying the outdoors, whether it’s a springtime lunch or a balmy summer evening. But how do you get cocktails or glasses of wine and hors d’oeuvres from your kitchen to your guests, while still looking cool and being the perfect host?

The answer, of course, is a serving tray--that wonderful “tool” that expands the capacity of your two hands to carry more… and to do it with style. But once you focus on the need for a serving tray, you need pick the serving tray that’s right for you. The right size and shape that will work best - or most versatiley - for your needs may vary. Transporting multiple plates or serving dishes and utensils, from kitchen to table [especially if that table is outdoors!] will require your tray(s) to have greater surface area - a large rectangle, for example. But carrying cocktail glasses and a cocktail shaker, or wine glasses and 1 or more bottles of wine, requires a more stable serving piece. And THAT is where the OGGI Stainless Steel non-skid Rubbergrip™ Tray meets your needs, in several, highly-effective ways!
