Let’s face it, vegetables can be a little boring. It’s not their fault--they spent most of their early life playing in the dirt. So how do you make them the life of the party without spending hours doing it? Well herbs, spices and flavorings certainly help (and, of course, there’s always cheese), but the simplest way is to change the shape and texture, which ultimately changes the taste. Whether you’re making noodles out of zucchini (one of our favorites) or strings of carrots, beets or potatoes, a changed shape adds appeal to both the eye and the mouth.

The Spiralfix is the hunkier cousin of the Spirelli, the little Cool Tool that shaves vegetables into strings. The Spiralfix takes that to a whole new level. It consists of a chamber into which you put your vegetable (it also works well on firm cheese!), a series of adjustable blades that cut small, medium and large slices - think noodles or shaved parmesan - with a simple twist of the knob, a pusher that presses down on the vegetable, connected to the handle that turns it against the blade (far away from your tender fingers, by the way), and a catcher cup with a non-slip base that locks onto the bottom and comes with a lid to store the end product if you’re not going to use it right away.
The whole thing comes apart for cleaning and is top-shelf dishwasher safe. And talk about easy to use--watch the video, it just doesn’t get any easier than this. Anything that gives us great results and cuts down on our work, and is cool looking to boot, is a Cool Tool in our book.
