OK, you know this problem, right? You put something into a container and put it in the microwave to heat up. You thought it was contained (it’s in a ‘container’, after all). But somehow your contents bubble or spit and, before you know it, you have a mess on your microwave turntable. Now you have to take that heavy piece of glass out of its safe secure home and risk breaking it in your sink. And if you do, then good luck finding a replacement--every manufacturer seems to make each model a little different so that the parts are not easily interchangeable. So, to the growing list of “why didn’t we think of that?” tools, we add: the Progressive Silicone Microwave Multimat.
It’s primary purpose is to be positioned in your microwave, between your spills and your turntable. It’s infinitely easier to clean, and it makes your microwave more efficient by providing better heat circulation and distribution when it’s under your plate or bowl in the turntable.
Ever since we got ours to test, it hasn’t left our microwave oven, except for occasional rinses under the faucet or a spin in the dishwasher. It’s one of those very unglamorous, but very simple and highly functional, tools that you wonder how you ever got by without.
And like every good multi-tasker, it does so much more when it's not catching spills in your microwave:
It’s a hot pad or pot holder: to lift your ‘hot’ dish out of your microwave, without burning your fingers;
- It's a microwave bowl cover;
It’s a drying mat for glasses;
- It's a jar opener;
It’s a utensil rest by your stove (or microwave); and
It’s a trivet and a placemat
Is it a Cool Tool? Anything that takes up that little space, performs so many functions, and saves us that much effort is definitely a Cool Tool in our book! And think how useful this will be in a dorm room where a microwave is the main cooking tool?
