Cool Tip: Save that Basil...

Basil is one of those wonderful herbs of summer that makes everything you add it to taste of sunshine. But left in the refrigerator, it can turn old and brown before you turn around.

But there is a way to keep basil fresh for a lot longer:

When you get it home, cut a little off the stems, and then stand it in a glass or jar or any container that will hold water.
Then leave in a light area, but not in direct sunlight.

We're told that if you cover the tops with a plastic bag that has holes cut in it (above we used a shower cap that we appropriated from a hotel) it will last even longer...we'll let you know.

You'll find that this way your basil will stay fresh for a week or more...and sunshine will follow you!
