Cool Tip: Make your own Blanched Almonds...

A lot of recipes (including this one) call for blanched almonds (naked or skinless almonds), and they used to be much easier to find in the stores.  Now if you can find them, they are very expensive.

But never fear, you can now free yourself from the decisions of grocers everywhere and blanch your own almonds--it's easy!  Here's how...

Raw almonds
Water to cover well

  • Put almonds in a pot, add water.
  • Cover and bring to a boil.
  • When reaches a full rolling boil, remove from heat, drain and spray with cold water from the faucet.
  • Pinch off the skins.
  • Let cool and dry and store in an airtight container.
