I’m a sucker for romantic comedies, and one of my favorites is “Kate and Leopold”: that fun piece of fluff about about the Duke of Albany (Hugh Jackman), who accidentally goes through a time portal from 1870’s New York to 2001 New York, and meets Kate (Meg Ryan), a hard-driving advertising executive. One of my favorite scenes in the movie is when, after observing her bad eating habits, he makes her a beautiful breakfast of whole grain toast with mascarpone and fresh strawberries.

Well, this may be fiction, but the Duke of Albany really had something there. The mixture of both flavors and textures makes this a sublime (and mostly healthy) breakfast, and when you’re in the middle of strawberry season, when strawberries are both inexpensive and delicious, you can’t do much better than this.

Just take two slices of whole grain bread (we like Dave’s Killer Bread 21 Whole Grains and Seeds, Thin-Sliced) and toast it to your desired level of doneness. Then spread about 1T of mascarpone (Trader Joe’s has a good one) on each slice. Now this is where the Cool Tools come in (of course). Take your Strawberry Stemmer and stem 6 strawberries (it’s so much more elegant to remove the cores, instead of merely cutting off the tops). Then take yourEgg/Strawberry/Mushroom/etc Slicer and make perfect strawberry slices (appearances count in this simple breakfast) to layer on top of the mascarpone.

Then sit back and imagine that this has been served to you by the hunky, gorgeous Duke of Albany (who looks like Hugh Jackman, with or without his shirt!) … or just simply sit back and enjoy the ultimate taste of summer!
