Cool Tip: Clean & Lube Your Grill ...
- Jun 24, 2015
Every cooking surface needs a little lubricant to avoid sticking food, and your Grill is no exception! After you’ve scraped to achieve a nominally clean surface, you need to oil that surface.
Take a small clean cotton towel - an old rag, or the kind you buy in bulk for home cleaning tasks - and fold it to approximately 4” x 6” - in quarters. Get it just damp so it resists the heat of the grill. At this point, we disagree about whether tying the folded towel with kitchen twine is a useful additional step - you decide for yourself and let us know which you prefer!
Now you have a small “Roll-Up”!
After you've heated and brushed your Grill, pour a small amount - 1-2 Tablespoons - of Canola Oil, or similar high-heat point oil, onto the dampened Roll-Up, grab it with your long tongs and quickly rub your Roll-Up across your Grill. The results will be (a) one last cleanup of the Grill and (b) a lubricated grilling surface, so your food won’t stick.
Store the Roll-Up in a small plastic bag, near your Grilling Tools, for the next time! And when it gets too dirty, throw it in the washing machine or just toss it and make another!
